A research vessel tailored
for challenging
expeditions.

Prepared for data collection

Hrimfare has been converted into a research vessel and communication think tank, running on renewable energy. Now being updated with new scientific sensors, sampling equipment, and laboratory facilities onboard. She will serve as a mothership for the project "Sailing4Science" with partner assignments during the UN Ocean Decade roll-out during 2024-2030. Hrimfare is also a "partner member" of the All-Atlantic Floating University, allowing Early Career Ocean Professionals to join us onboard on upcoming expeditions.

Advanced and frugal equipment

Our concerns for the data collection needed from our ocean have been a driving force when equipping Hrimfare with proper and professional facilities for advanced research assignments. We are preparing her for several large-scale scientific research projects via our concept "Sailing4Science". We also see the need to bridge the gap between science/scientists and the general public and are making expeditions for students, entrepreneurs, politicians, and environmental stakeholders interested in scientific sailing showcase expeditions – including a comprehensive workshop program – allowing the joining crew members to participate in both simple and advance sample collection.

Renewable Energy System

One of the benefits of a sailing research lab is of course the minimized risks of polluting the water and air around the vessel when collecting samples. Whether it is disturbing sound, toxic cooling water, emissions, and other substances. A comprehensive renewable energy system is installed onboard, furthermore, electric propulsion is prioritized, but biodegradable fuels will be used for stretches if necessary for transportation and safety reasons.
